VUE’s professional learning program is extensive and always growing to meet the needs of members.
- The major focus is on the American Federation of Teachers’ TEACH Program in which we offer in-service courses to members and potential-members. VUE trainers present ten courses for Volusia County teachers in effective teaching methods, classroom management and specific content areas.
- A second focus is on supporting teachers in meeting certification reqiurements. VUE offers courses in English as a Second or Other Language (ESOL) and for the new Exceptional Student Education (ESE) requirement.
- A third focus of VUE’s professional learning program is on providing assistance to new teachers, helping teachers who request support and aiding those with evaluation issues. Assistance is provided on a confidential, one-to-one basis initiated by the teacher. Any member who would like to discuss a classroom problem or feels the need for short or long-term support can call the office for assistance. A full-time staff member focused on professional development and supporting teachers in the classroom is another example of VUE’s commitment to improving on-the-job satisfaction for our members.
- The fourth focus of VUE’s professional learning is for para-professionals and office specialists. This is a new an exciting program focused on help paras and office specailsits. By helping each other, we all suceed. We even are offering support in the clerical exams.
Most VUE courses are approved for district in-service credits and all courses are taught by fellow VUE members. There is nothing better than members helping fellow members succeed. Contact the VUE office for more information.
